Boys Will Be Boys - Uh...No

It’s all over the news and social media – the Cornell 7. Although the word “alleged” is being used, it appears that the original investigation was clearly conducted improperly with the defensive response being the accuser didn’t divulge all the information at the time she first reported the offenses. Shame on her for being emotionally and physically traumatized to the point she couldn’t fit together all the pieces of what happened to her, especially because she was barely conscious most of the time.

Although the word “alleged” is being used, it is clear that Cornell handled it in the best way they knew how to keep their image intact.

It is not my intention to accuse, blame or shame anyone in this blog. But it is my intention to tell you that I have no fondness for fraternities and sororities where events such as this occur too often. Where initiation hazing involving humiliation and shaming, as well as encouraging dangerous behavior such as drinking so much alcohol that young people die or become brain dead just to be accepted has no place in this world any longer.

It is also my intention to say that this statement:

"Teach boys not to rape instead of teaching girls how to avoid it"

is so upsetting to me. Teach boys not to rape? My God, this is something we have to teach??? How is this not common sense? How do human males not have respect and empathy for females or for each other?

I raised two sons and never felt the need to teach them not to rape. I taught them to respect everyone, that no meant no, that what they saw on the internet or magazines or wherever was not reflective of what women in the real world wanted. That real women didn’t necessarily look like what they were seeing and that they didn’t enjoy being exploited in any way.

You know, the thing about these Cornell 7 men, not boys, is that they are all good looking and appear to be perfectly capable of getting girlfriends unless they constantly act like the f*****g assholes they really are.

Let’s face it, women are beautiful. Hard to resist, right? But even Eve was blamed for weakening Adam. Is it really all our fault? Do we have signs saying feel free to take us, shame us, hurt us, and abuse us?

As always, the good men in the world get looped into this mess of shit, and there are plenty of good men who would never do this because they’re good humans.

Get rid of fraternities and sororities and I venture to say it may at least reduce some of this horrific behavior.
